YulliYulli Tamayo-Myerson RDHT

Dental Hygienist/Therapist

Yulli has over 10 years dental experience and has held a variety of roles within the dental team. She started as a Dental Nurse in 1997 and has gained qualifications in dental nursing, oral health education, dental radiography and conscious sedation.

She is now a dually qualified Dental Hygienist and Therapist from King’s College London Dental Institute. Her training allows her to carry out preventative and gum treatment for adults and children, place fillings in adults and perform an extensive range of dental treatments on deciduous teeth (milk teeth).

Yulli enjoys working with nervous patients to overcome their fear of dentistry. She believes that through clear and effective communication the patient can be guided to taking an active role in their dental treatment and oral health.

She is a registered member of the General Dental Council, the British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy and the British Association of Dental Therapists.

What is the role of dental hygienists?

A dental hygienist is a licensed oral health care professional that plays a key role in the overall health of a person by helping to provide preventive dental care and promoting
dental health.

They do this by using special tools to remove plaque and tartar build-up from teeth, recommending good oral hygiene practices to dental patients and examining the patients’ teeth and gums, marking the appearance of disease or anything else unusual.

Dental hygienists are also permitted to apply topical fluorides and fissure sealants in order to reduce tooth decay.

While dentists concentrate on treating tooth and gum conditions, the dental hygienist has a vital role in helping to prevent problems from arising. Dental hygienists often prepare patients for examination by a dentist and can work alongside all sectors of specialist dentistry.

Their health promotional role includes motivating and encouraging individuals and groups in oral health practices, including oral hygiene and dietary advice.
